Schedule of Events

10:00 am - Dr. MLK Jr. Day of Service Virtual Celebration

Join us on the MLK websiteFacebook or YouTube for a welcome from the Mayor of Iowa City, Bell Ringing Ceremony, guest speakers, performances and resource fair.

10:30 am - Family Storytime at the Iowa City Public Library

Learn about the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through stories, songs, short films, and a service activity.

11:30 am - Protest and Car Parade

Participate in a protest for Voting Rights Reform, followed by a car parade

12:00 noon - Dr. MLK Jr. In-Person Day of Service

  • 12:00 - 2:00pm at Mercer Park Aquatic Center, 2701 Bradford, Dr. Iowa City.
    Take part in various service projects for all ages and abilities, get information about voting, and pick up free books for children. There will also be packaged service project kits for pick-up for individuals and families who want to do them at home

Teen Art Drop-In at the Iowa City Public Library

  • 12:00 - 2:00pm Create protest art honoring Dr. King and his legacy. Bring art you are working on or use the supplies provided on site.
